The Bulldog Bash was a great way to kick off the year and I hope you were able to attend. We have begun an awesome year by reviewing routines and discussing norms for table groups. I have assigned the following Math project that is due this Friday. There is no Science hw this week.
- What is estimation and why is it important?
- Give an example of how you would use estimation when shopping; explain.
- Give 2 examples of estimation and draw a diagram
- In complete sentences and in your own works explain how to round decimals to the hundredths place. Show numeric examples.
Ex. 3.091 + 5.437 ⇾ 3.09 + 5.44 = 8.53
Different forms of energy are all around us and our topic of Science. Sound waves are used by animals to see and hunt. We listened to then wrote our opinions about which organism has a better ultrasound system.
You can listen to the postcast here.
We are now learning how energy moves within Earth´s systems.
The current unit is about energy. Our phenomena for this guiding question was the sounds created from a needle and a vinyl record. We concluded that a sound source, waves, and an ear were necessary to experience this phenomena. We are looking into other sound sources and other ways that energy is transferred.
Students complete test corrections in math to correct mistakes and raise their test scores. They receive 1/2 point for each correction up to a total of 12 points. I encourage students to retake the quiz if their score is below 70 after corrections. I am noticing that many students are not doing the corrections properly and are not receiving additional credit. Please check your child’s quiz scores and have them attend an after school support class to get the help they need. I am having after school math support workshops on Thursdays 3-4 to help students in Math and Science.
Questions, comments, suggestions?
We have been busy learning measurement. Students had to convert milligrams, centimeters and meters. Their homework on 9/5 is to review the lab.
